Grocery bags, zip-top boxes and foil rolls look like one cupboard problem. They are three, and buying one product for all three is why the cupboard is still a mess.

Three different things are called bag storage and they need three different products. For loose grocery bags with no drilling, the Spectrum Ashley over-cabinet-door holder takes a stated 30 bags, projects 4.25 in and fits doors up to 0.75 in thick. For zip-top boxes, the SpaceAid bamboo drawer organizer is 12.5 by 12 by 3 in with four slots cut for gallon, quart, sandwich and snack sizes. For foil and plastic wrap, neither of those works and the EVERIE 3-tier rack is the answer, expanding 11 to 16.7 in to hold the boxes upright.
The reason this cupboard never stays tidy is that it holds three objects with nothing in common: a formless pile of thin plastic, a set of rectangular cardboard boxes of different heights, and two or three long heavy rolls. One organizer cannot do all three and most people buy as though it could.
Job one: loose grocery bags
A pile of carrier bags is compressible and shapeless, so the only thing that works is a tube with a wide opening at the top and a narrow one at the bottom. Stuff in; pull one out.
All three dispensers here work the same way and differ in two published figures: stated capacity and projection. Two state 30 bags. The projections are 3.5 in, 3.62 in and 4.25 in, and that figure is what decides whether a cabinet door closes over one. Measure from the inside face of the door to the nearest shelf edge before you choose.

Figures as published by the sellers in the retailer catalog, retrieved 17 October 2026. One of the three bag dispensers publishes no capacity at all and describes expansion instead; that is recorded as 'not stated' rather than inferred from the other two.
Job two: zip-top bags in their boxes
Gallon, quart, sandwich and snack bags come in four cardboard boxes of four different sizes, and stacking them is what makes the drawer unusable. The answer is a slotted box that takes the bags out of the cardboard and keeps them standing.
Both drawer organizers here are four-slot and both state they are cut for the same four sizes. The useful differences are height and orientation: the YouCopia is 2.8 in tall and is explicitly designed to stand upright in a cabinet as well as lie flat in a drawer, which doubles the places it can go. The SpaceAid is 3 in tall, bamboo, and has no feet - on a bare drawer base it will slide to the back every time the drawer shuts.
Job three: foil, wrap and parchment
These are the one thing in the cupboard you should not decant, because the cutter is part of the product. Take a roll of foil out of its box and you own a roll of foil and a problem.
So the job is holding the boxes, not replacing them, and that is what a tiered rack does. The EVERIE expands from 11 to 16.7 in with three adjustable tier heights, which matters because a parchment box and a foil box are different heights and a fixed rack suits one of them. What it does not publish is a load, on a rack its own listing says will also hold jars and bottles.
How this page is ranked
Is it honest about which job it does? A product sold as 'bag storage' that is actually a zip-top drawer insert is the most common mis-buy in this category.
Published projection, for anything that hangs on a door, because that is the figure that decides whether the door still shuts.
Published door thickness, for over-door hardware. Only one listing here gives it: 0.75 in.
Stated capacity, counted in bags rather than described as 'large'.
Whether it makes holes. A rented kitchen rules out half this category and the listings that offer both fixings say so.

What it gets right
States the four bag sizes it is cut for rather than leaving you to measure
3 in tall, so it fits a standard kitchen drawer
Bags come out of their cardboard boxes, which is where the drawer space actually goes
What it does not
12 in square is a big footprint for a drawer that also holds other things
Bamboo and bare drawer bases both slide - there are no feet on this one
Who it is for
A kitchen that buys all four zip-top sizes and currently stacks four cardboard boxes.
Skip this if
You only buy one bag size. A four-slot box for one size is three empty slots taking 12 in of drawer.

A drawer or a shelf, either way up
YouCopia StoraBag Drawer Food Bag Dispenser, 4-Slot
12 by 10.3 by 2.8 in with a removable lid and four compartments, and the only one here that is designed to stand upright in a cabinet as well as lie in a drawer.
The front slot is the design difference - you pull one bag rather than four
3.62 in of projection, the shallowest of the three wall units here
Both fixings in the box, so it suits an owned or a rented kitchen
What it does not
Several times the price of the plastic alternatives for the same stated 30 bags
No published load, and the adhesive option on a steel body full of bags is optimistic
Who it is for
A visible wall in a utility room or kitchen where the dispenser has to look deliberate.
Skip this if
It is going inside a cabinet where nobody sees it. You are paying for brushed stainless and a cabinet door hides it.
0.75 inches is thinner than most cabinet doors
The over-door holder publishes the door thickness it accepts and the number is 0.75 in. That is a thin door. A flat slab door is often around that; a shaker-style door with a raised frame frequently is not, and a solid timber door rarely is.
This is the most common reason over-cabinet hardware comes straight back off, and it is published on exactly one listing in this group. Measure the door edge with calipers or a steel rule before ordering, and if it is over 0.75 in, buy one of the two wall-mounted versions instead - both include adhesive as well as screws, so neither forces a hole.
Steel against plastic, for the same stated 30 bags
The simplehuman dispenser and the Spectrum wall holder do the same job and sit several times apart in price. The published differences are small: 3.62 in of projection against 3.5 in, a steel body against hard plastic, and a wide front slot against a large bottom opening.
The honest reading is that you are paying for the finish and the single-bag front slot. Inside a cabinet door, where nobody sees it and you pull a bag twice a week, the plastic one is the better buy. On a visible utility-room wall, the steel one is the product that looks like it was chosen rather than tolerated.
What this does not solve
None of this creates cupboard space - it rearranges it. If the under-sink or pantry cabinet is genuinely full, the gain comes from a shelf rather than a dispenser, and the depth and spacing figures that govern that are on pantry shelf depth and spacing.
And if the real problem is that the cabinet is deep and the back of it is lost, a bag holder on the door is the wrong fix. The right one is on best pull-out pantry shelves.
How many bags is worth keeping
A dispenser rated for 30 bags is not a target. The honest number is however many you will reuse before the next shop, which for most households is somewhere under twenty - bin liners, pet waste, wet swimwear, shoes going into a suitcase.
Past that, a full dispenser is a storage problem rather than a solution, and the bags at the bottom are years old and brittle. The useful discipline is to size the dispenser to the genuine use rather than to the accumulation: when it is full, the next bag goes in the recycling at the store rather than into the cupboard. Most grocery chains take clean carrier bags back at the entrance.
What we are not telling you
We have not handled these. Every capacity, dimension and door-thickness figure here is published by the seller in the retailer catalog, retrieved on 17 October 2026, and labeled as a listing figure.
No product in this category publishes a load, including the tiered rack its own listing says will hold glass jars and bottles of oil. One dispenser publishes no bag capacity and we have not filled one to find out. Prices are live from Amazon at the moment you look. The method is on how we pick.
FAQ
Questions people ask about this
Where should you store plastic grocery bags?
In a tube-shaped dispenser with a wide top opening and a narrow bottom one, fixed either inside a base cabinet door or on a utility wall. The published capacities here are 30 bags, and the figure to check before buying is the projection - 3.5 to 4.25 in - against the gap between your closed cabinet door and the nearest shelf.
Will an over-the-cabinet-door bag holder fit my doors?
Only if the door is 0.75 in thick or less, which is what the one listing that publishes a figure states. That excludes many shaker-style and solid timber doors. If yours is thicker, the wall-mounted versions include both screws and adhesive strips and will mount inside the same cabinet.
How do you organize zip-top bags in a drawer?
Take them out of the cardboard and stand them in a four-slot organizer cut for gallon, quart, sandwich and snack sizes. The two here are 2.8 in and 3 in tall and both are around 12 in square, so measure the drawer in both directions before buying.
Should you take foil and plastic wrap out of their boxes?
No. The cutter strip is part of the box and a loose roll is harder to use, not easier. Store the boxes upright in a tiered rack instead - the one here expands from 11 to 16.7 in and has adjustable tier heights, which matters because a parchment box and a foil box are different heights.
Is an expensive steel bag dispenser worth it?
The published figures are nearly identical: both the steel and the plastic option here state 30 bags and sit within 0.12 in of each other on projection. You are paying for the finish and a wide single-bag front slot. Inside a cabinet door the plastic one does the same job; on a visible wall the steel one looks deliberate.
Can you store plastic bags in a drawer instead?
You can, and they expand to fill it. A dispenser works because it compresses the pile between a wide opening and a narrow one. If a drawer is the only option, use one of the zip-top organizers and fold the carrier bags into it - but that is more work every week than a dispenser you stuff.

Where these figures come from
Product figures, as listed in the retailer catalog (17 October 2026)Dimensions, capacities, published loads, materials, stated fit limits and every other figure for the products added in this expansion, taken from the Amazon catalog and the sellers' own listing text through the Creators API on 17 October 2026. These are listing figures rather than manufacturer specification sheets, and each row is labeled that way. Where a listing contradicts itself - and several on these pages do - both figures are quoted rather than the more flattering one. Any figure derived from them is our own arithmetic and is labeled as ours.
