Ties and belts are small. The organizers that hold them are not, and what each one costs you is wall, rod inches or drawer depth. Pick by which of those three you have spare.

Buy the ClosetMaid 27-Hook Tie and Belt Rack if you can drill, and the TOPIA HANGER 2-in-1 if you cannot. The ClosetMaid rack is the only product in the category that publishes its projection - 2.38 in - which is the number that decides whether a closet door still shuts over it. The TOPIA hanger does the same job from the rod with two different hook shapes, flat for ties and U-shaped for belts, and it makes no holes. For scarves, buy rings rather than hooks: the Whitmor 16-ring hanger is vinyl-coated and will not pull a thread.
This category looks like one product in six finishes. It is really three products, and they are separated by which scarce thing in your closet they consume.
The three formats, and what each one spends
Wall or door racks spend wall. They cost nothing in rod or drawer, they hold the most per dollar, and they need a surface you are allowed to drill. The figure that matters is projection - how far the rack stands off the surface - because a door that no longer closes is the usual failure.
Rod-hung racks spend rod inches, which in a reach-in closet is the scarcest dimension you have. They make no holes, which is the whole argument for them. Budget an inch to an inch and a half of rod per rack.
Drawer trays spend drawer depth and length. They cost no rod and no wall, and they are the only format that works in a closet with neither. The trade is that a rolled tie creases differently from a hung one.
What none of them does: publish a load. Not one listing in this category states what a loaded rack weighs or carries, and a full belt rack is a genuinely heavy object.
Projection is the measurement nobody checks
A tie rack on the back of a closet door has to clear whatever is behind the door when it closes. That is usually the end of a shelf or the shoulder of a hanging garment, and the gap is often smaller than people think.
The ClosetMaid rack publishes 2.38 in of depth and it is the only one here that does. Everything else gives you an overall size with the depth buried in it, or omits it. Measure the gap between the inside face of your closed door and the nearest obstruction, and treat 2.38 in as the benchmark the others have to beat without saying so.

How this page is ranked
Does the listing publish the dimension that decides fit? Projection for a wall rack, folded thickness for a rod rack, compartment width for a drawer tray. Most publish one of the three.
What it costs you. A rack that takes two inches of rod in a reach-in closet has a real price that does not appear on the listing.
Hook shape against the item. A flat hook holds a tie. A U-hook holds a belt. A ring holds a scarf without marking it. A product that claims all three with one hook profile is compromising on two of them.
Honest capacity. Every capacity claim here is hooks multiplied by two or three. We quote the multiplier rather than the headline.
Whether it makes holes, because that decides the whole question in a rental.

Material

Stated capacity
Not published by the manufacturer in a form we could verify - the listing gives hook count, not a number of ties
What it gets right
Publishes the projection, which is the figure that decides whether a door still shuts
27 hooks in 15 in of width is the densest published hook spacing here
Rubber tips, so silk does not sit against bare steel
What it does not
Fixed to the wall or door, so it cannot move with a rented closet
No stated capacity - hook count is not the same as ties held
Who it is for
A closet with a free stretch of wall or a solid door leaf, and more ties than a hanger can carry.
Skip this if
You cannot drill. This is a screwed fixing, and a rod-hung rack does the same job with no holes.

What it gets right
Publishes the compartment width, which is the figure that decides whether a rolled belt fits
Costs no rod inches at all
Soft-sided, so a buckle sits against fabric rather than against another buckle
What it does not
A rolled tie creases differently from a hung one, and the crease sets over months
13.39 in long means it will not fit crossways in a shallow dresser drawer
Who it is for
A closet with no spare rod and no wall, but a drawer with 13.5 in of clear run.
Skip this if
You wear the ties. Rolling is fine for belts and for ties you rotate rarely, and a hung tie stays flatter.
Ties and belts want different hooks
A tie hangs by its own weight over a flat bar, and the wider that bar is, the less of a crease it sets into the fabric. A belt hangs by the buckle end, or through the buckle, and it wants a hook with an upward return so it cannot slide off when the door swings.
The TOPIA rack is the only product here that publishes both shapes on the same bar - ten flat hooks and ten U-shaped ones. Every other combined rack uses one hook profile for both, which works, and works less well. If you own many more of one than the other, a dedicated rack beats a compromise: the RESOVO is belts only, the HANGERWORLD is ties only, and both are cheaper per hook than the hybrid.
Scarves are a different problem
Knitted and silk scarves snag. A hook concentrates the load on a single point of a loose weave, and over months that point becomes a pull. Rings spread it along a fold.
The Whitmor hanger is 16 vinyl-coated rings with no sharp joints, which is the right geometry for the job. The cost is height: at 15.88 in it hangs a long way below the rod, and in a double-hang closet it will reach into the garments underneath. In a single-rod closet with full-length clothes, that height costs nothing.
The capacity claims, taken apart
42 belts on 14 hooks is three belts per hook. The seller says so in the listing, which is more honest than most, but it is worth understanding what it means in use: to reach the third belt you lift the first two. A rack loaded to its stated capacity is a rack you dig through.
The same arithmetic applies to the 30-belt and 30-tie claim on the 2-in-1 rack - ten hooks of each kind, three items a hook. In practice a hook holds one item you can see and one or two you have forgotten about. If you want everything visible, halve every capacity figure on this page and buy accordingly.
Where each one goes
Back of the closet door: the ClosetMaid rack, because 2.38 in of projection is published and most door gaps can take it.
Side wall of a reach-in: also the ClosetMaid rack, mounted vertically if the wall is narrow. 15 in of width becomes 15 in of height and the hooks still work.
On the rod, in a rental: the TOPIA 2-in-1 for a mixed collection, the HANGERWORLD for ties alone at 0.7 in folded.
On the rod, in a walk-in: the Whitmor rings, where the 15.88 in drop has somewhere to go.
In a dresser drawer: the Coorganisers trays, if the drawer has 13.39 in of clear run - measure it, because a standard dresser drawer often does not.
What a rack does not fix
If the closet is already full, an accessory rack makes it fuller. The order of operations is the same as everywhere else on this site: recover the space first, then organize what is in it. If your rod is at capacity, the vertical space under a short hanging run is the cheapest recovery available and it is set out on closet organization ideas.
And if the closet is a reach-in with a single rod and a shelf, the constraint is structural rather than organizational. The depths, rod heights and clearances that decide what any of this can fit into are on reach-in closet dimensions.
What we are not telling you
We have not handled any of these racks. Every dimension, hook count and capacity claim on this page is published by the seller in the retailer catalog, retrieved on 17 October 2026, and is labeled as a listing figure rather than a manufacturer specification.
No product in this category publishes a load rating, and we have not tested one. A rack of 42 leather belts is a meaningful weight hanging off two screws or one hook, and nobody selling these will tell you what that weight is. Prices are live from Amazon at the moment you look. The method is on how we pick.
FAQ
Questions people ask about this
What is the best way to store ties and belts?
On a rack with the right hook shape for each: a flat hook for ties, so the fabric is not creased at a point, and a U-shaped or returned hook for belts, so they cannot slide off. If you can drill, a wall or door rack costs you nothing in closet rod. If you cannot, a rod-hung rack does the same job for about an inch and a half of rod.
How much space does a tie rack need behind a closet door?
Check the projection. The ClosetMaid rack here publishes 2.38 in, which is the only published projection figure in the category, and it is a fair benchmark: measure the gap between the inside face of your closed door and the nearest shelf end or hanging shoulder, and make sure it exceeds that.
Will a hook rack damage silk ties or knitted scarves?
A hook concentrates the load at one point, which over months pulls a thread in a loose weave. Ties are generally fine on a flat hook. Scarves are not, which is why ring hangers exist - the Whitmor here uses 16 vinyl-coated rings with no sharp joints, and the ring spreads the load along a fold instead.
How many belts does a belt hanger really hold?
Divide the stated capacity by the hook count. The 42-belt figure here is 14 hooks at three belts each, which the seller states plainly. That is achievable, but you will lift two belts to reach the third. If you want every belt visible, plan on one per hook.
Can you store ties in a drawer instead?
Yes, and it is the only option in a closet with no spare wall and no spare rod. Measure the drawer: the fabric trays here are 13.39 in long and 5.12 in deep with 2.17 in compartments, and a standard dresser drawer will not always take that length crossways. Rolled ties crease differently from hung ones, and a crease left for a year sets.
Do tie racks come with a weight limit?
None of the products on this page publishes one, and that is worth knowing rather than assuming. A full belt rack is several pounds hanging from two screws, so fix a wall rack into something solid rather than into plasterboard alone.

Where these figures come from
Product figures, as listed in the retailer catalog (17 October 2026)Dimensions, capacities, published loads, materials, stated fit limits and every other figure for the products added in this expansion, taken from the Amazon catalog and the sellers' own listing text through the Creators API on 17 October 2026. These are listing figures rather than manufacturer specification sheets, and each row is labeled that way. Where a listing contradicts itself - and several on these pages do - both figures are quoted rather than the more flattering one. Any figure derived from them is our own arithmetic and is labeled as ours.
