Every holder in this category publishes a weight. Almost none of them publishes it for the fixing you are actually going to use, and one of them does.

Buy the AceMining stainless holder if you can drill, because it is the only listing in this category that publishes a load for both fixings: 30 lb screwed and 8 lb self-adhesive. That one line is the whole argument. If you cannot drill at all, the Command Broom and Mop Gripper is rated 4 lb per gripper and publishes the handle diameter it accepts, 0.8 to 1 in, which is the measurement that actually decides whether a gripper holds. For a closet with no free wall, the Lorbro over-the-door holder is rated 30 lb on hooks 0.07 in thick.
A broom closet fails in one of two ways: the handles fall over every time the door opens, or there is nowhere for the bottles. Those are different problems and they need different products, which is why both are on this page.
The fixing decides the number, not the holder
Every product in this category quotes a weight. Most quote the best-case one. The AceMining listing quotes two, and the gap between them is the single most useful figure in the category:
Screwed into something solid: 30 lb.
Stuck on with the supplied adhesive: 8 lb.
That is a 73 percent reduction, published by the seller, for the same holder on the same wall.
Nothing else here states both. Read every other adhesive-or-screws claim in this category against that ratio, because the physics does not change between brands. If a listing quotes one number and offers two fixings, assume the number is the screwed one.

The handle diameter nobody checks
A spring-loaded slot grips a range of handle thicknesses and fails outside it. The Command gripper is the only product here that publishes that range - 0.8 in to 1 in - and it is a narrow band.
That covers a standard household broom and most mop handles. It does not reliably cover a thick wooden yard-brush handle, a telescopic pole at its fattest section, or the slim handle on a lightweight dustpan brush. Measure the handle before you buy the gripper, because a handle outside the stated range will either not go in or will not stay in.
How this page is ranked
Does it publish a load, and for which fixing? The two-figure listing wins the category on this alone.
Does it publish what it grips? Handle diameter for a gripper, door thickness for a door-mount. Most publish neither.
Slots against hooks. A slot holds a long handle upright; a hook holds a dustpan, a cloth or a bucket. A rack with only one of them does half the job.
Whether it comes off cleanly, because a utility closet is exactly the wall a landlord inspects.
Whether it addresses the bottles, which are most of the volume in a cleaning cupboard and none of the hardware in this category.

Command Broom and Mop Gripper, 3-PackThe only product here that publishes both a load and the handle diameter it fits: 4 lb per gripper, on handles 0.8 to 1 in across.
Lorbro Over-the-Door Broom and Mop HolderFour slots and four hooks hung over the door on 0.07 in hooks, rated 30 lb, for the utility closet where every wall is already shelving.

Seeing what the fixing costs you
AceMining Stainless Broom Holder, 5 Racks and 4 Hooks
The most honest listing in this category: 30 lb when screwed, 8 lb when stuck on. That one line is the whole adhesive-versus-screws argument, published by the seller.
Adhesive strips, no drilling, removableSource: Retailer catalog listing, retrieved 17 October 2026
Stated conditions
Surface cleaned with rubbing alcohol; 50-105 F at install; wait 7 days after painting; not within 1 ft of a sinkSource: Retailer catalog listing, retrieved 17 October 2026
What it gets right
Publishes the handle diameter, which is the measurement that actually decides fit
Comes off without taking paint, which is the whole argument in a rental
Three separate grippers can be spaced to suit the tools rather than a fixed rack
What it does not
4 lb is a broom, not a loaded mop bucket or a wet string mop
The install conditions are real - a cold garage or a freshly painted wall will drop it
Who it is for
A renter, or a painted closet wall that should stay unmarked.
Skip this if
The handle is thicker than 1 in or thinner than 0.8 in. The published range is narrow and a gripper outside it will not hold.
04
A closet with no free wall
Lorbro Over-the-Door Broom and Mop Holder
Four slots and four hooks hung over the door on 0.07 in hooks, rated 30 lb, for the utility closet where every wall is already shelving.
Publishes the hook thickness, which is the figure that decides whether the door still latches
No drilling, and the EVA pads mean no rattle
30 lb published, which is nearly four times the adhesive alternative
What it does not
The listing gives two different overall sizes - 17.32 x 2.8 x 2.6 in the catalog, 17 x 11 in the feature text
A door-hung rack swings with the door, so a loaded one knocks
Who it is for
A narrow utility closet with a hinged door and no spare wall.
Skip this if
The closet door is a bifold or a slider. Over-the-door hardware needs a hinged leaf with clearance behind it.

What it gets right
Publishes the door thickness it fits, which over-door products usually leave out
44 lb is a genuinely useful figure for spray bottles and refill jugs
Mesh side pockets take the cloths and gloves that fall through a shelf
What it does not
57.8 in tall, so it needs the full height of a door leaf and will foul a low shelf behind it
Fabric pockets hide what is at the back of them, which is the usual cost of this format
Who it is for
A utility closet where the bottles are on the floor and the floor is where the bucket should go.
Skip this if
Your cleaning products are mostly tall jugs. The pockets are 5.5 in deep and a gallon bottle will sit proud.

Published load
Not published by the manufacturer in a form we could verify
What it gets right
Publishes a real volume rather than a vague 'large'
5.2 in deep, so a spray bottle stands rather than lies down
Fits a standard 16 in shelf with an inch to spare
What it does not
No published load, and 1.85 gallons of liquid is around 15 lb on one handle
Open-topped, so dust settles on everything in it between uses
Who it is for
A house where cleaning happens in several rooms and the products currently migrate.
Skip this if
Everything lives in one room anyway. A caddy earns its shelf space by being carried, and a static one is a bin with a handle.
Organizing a broom closet, in order
Get the long handles off the floor first. Brooms and mops leaning in a corner are what makes a broom closet unusable - they fall, they block the door, and they stop you reaching anything behind them. One 17 in rack takes four or five of them.
Put the rack high enough that the heads clear the floor. A mop head resting on the floor is still a wet mop head on the floor. Hang so the lowest head sits a few inches clear.
Hooks take what slots cannot. A dustpan, a cloth, rubber gloves, the vacuum hose. That is what the folding hooks on these racks are for and it is why a slots-only rack is the wrong buy.
Then deal with the bottles. They are the bulk of the cupboard and no wall rack holds them. Either a door organizer with deep pockets, or a caddy that lifts out.
Keep the floor clear for the bucket and the vacuum, which are the two things that genuinely have to stand on it.
When the walls are already full
Most utility closets are shelved to the back wall and have about 4 in of usable side wall. That is where the over-the-door options earn their place, and the two here solve different halves of the problem.
The Lorbro is a handle rack that hangs over the door - 4 slots and 4 hooks, rated 30 lb, on hooks published at 0.07 in thick so the door still latches. The JARLINK is five fabric pockets rated 44 lb loaded, on hooks that fit doors up to 1.98 in thick, and it is the bottle answer rather than the handle answer. Neither works on a bifold or a sliding door: over-the-door hardware needs a hinged leaf with clearance behind it.
The caddy is not an accessory
A cleaning caddy looks like the least necessary thing on this page and is quietly the most load-bearing. The reason cleaning products end up scattered through a house is that carrying six bottles from room to room takes two trips, so people leave them where they were last used.
The Casabella tray publishes 1.85 gallons at 15.2 by 9.2 by 5.2 in, which fits a standard 16 in shelf with an inch to spare and stands a spray bottle upright. What it does not publish is a load, and 1.85 gallons of liquid is around 15 lb hanging off one molded handle. Carry it by the body when it is full.
What a holder does not fix
If the closet has one fixed shelf at head height and nothing else, the problem is the shelving rather than the hooks. A utility closet wants shelves at two or three heights, not one, and the span and bracket figures that decide whether you can add them are on closet shelf span and weight.
And if the closet smells, no amount of organizing will fix it - a damp mop head put away wet is the usual cause, and the diagnosis is the same as for any closet, on why your closet smells musty.
The vacuum is the thing nobody plans for
Every rack in this category is sized for a broom handle, and the largest object in most utility closets is a vacuum. A cordless stick vacuum needs a wall position, clearance to lift it off, and in most cases a power outlet within reach of its dock - and none of that is on any listing here.
Plan the vacuum's position first and hang the handle rack around it, rather than the other way round. If the closet has no outlet, the vacuum lives where the outlet is and the closet gets the brooms, which is a better outcome than a dead charger and a vacuum on the floor of a hallway.
What we are not telling you
We have not fitted or loaded any of these racks. Every load, dimension and handle-diameter figure here is published by the seller in the retailer catalog, retrieved on 17 October 2026, and labeled as a listing figure.
Every screwed load figure on this page assumes the fixing holds, and the listings say so. A 35 lb rack on two screws into hollow plasterboard is not a 35 lb rack. No listing here states a test standard behind its number, and we have not tested one. Prices are live from Amazon at the moment you look. The method is on how we pick.
FAQ
Questions people ask about this
How do you organize a broom closet?
Get the long handles off the floor onto a wall or door rack first, high enough that the heads hang clear. Use the hooks on the same rack for the dustpan, cloths and gloves. Then deal with the bottles separately, in a door organizer or a caddy, because no handle rack holds them. Leave the floor for the bucket and the vacuum.
How much weight can a broom holder hold?
It depends entirely on the fixing, and one listing here publishes both figures for the same product: 30 lb when screwed and 8 lb when fitted with its self-adhesive backing. The screwed racks on this page publish 30 to 35 lb and an adhesive gripper publishes 4 lb each. Assume any single-figure claim is the screwed one.
Do adhesive broom holders actually work?
For a broom, yes. For a loaded set of tools, read the number: the one listing that publishes both says adhesive carries about a quarter of what screws do. Adhesive also has conditions - a clean surface, a temperature range at install, and seven days after painting - and those are stated on the listing rather than optional.
What size handle do broom grippers fit?
The only published range in this category is 0.8 in to 1 in in diameter. That covers a standard broom and most mops, and it does not reliably cover a thick yard-brush handle or a telescopic pole at its widest. Measure the handle first.
Can you use an over-the-door broom holder on any door?
Only a hinged one with clearance behind it. A bifold or a sliding door has no leaf to hang from. The two over-door products here publish their hook thickness - 0.07 in on one - and door thickness, up to 1.98 in on the other, and both matter for whether the door still closes and latches.
Where should cleaning bottles go in a utility closet?
Not on the wall rack, which is built for handles. Either in deep door pockets - the one here publishes 44 lb loaded and 15.7 in pocket length - or in a portable caddy, which has the advantage that the products travel to the room being cleaned rather than being abandoned there.

Where these figures come from
Product figures, as listed in the retailer catalog (17 October 2026)Dimensions, capacities, published loads, materials, stated fit limits and every other figure for the products added in this expansion, taken from the Amazon catalog and the sellers' own listing text through the Creators API on 17 October 2026. These are listing figures rather than manufacturer specification sheets, and each row is labeled that way. Where a listing contradicts itself - and several on these pages do - both figures are quoted rather than the more flattering one. Any figure derived from them is our own arithmetic and is labeled as ours.
