About Bin & Basket

Written by Scooter M.. We compile the specifications manufacturers publish, do the arithmetic in the open, and do not pretend to have tested anything.

What this site is

Bin & Basket covers closet and pantry storage, from a single shelf to a full system. Nothing else — no garage, no bathroom, no general home-organization filler. The scope is narrow on purpose, because the thing we do well takes depth rather than breadth.

What we do is publish the numbers. Shelf depths, bracket spacing, rod support intervals, load ratings, container heights — compiled from the manufacturers' own installation manuals and specification sheets, attributed by document name, with the fit arithmetic shown so you can check it. Then we recommend products against those numbers.

The reason the site exists is that nobody else does this. We surveyed the pages currently ranking for the main terms in this category and not one of them leads with dimensions, spans, spacing or load ratings — while the questions people actually type are "reach in closet depth", "pantry shelving spacing" and "what is the strongest closet rod". That gap is the whole editorial premise, and it is filled in the fit guide.

Who writes it

Scooter M. I am an enthusiast who is genuinely into this. I read the installation manuals, compile the published specs, and do the math. No lab coat.

I have not handled most of the products on this site, and I say so on every page that recommends one. There is no test lab here, no owned inventory and no staff. Inventing any of that would be the easiest claim in the world for a competitor or a search quality rater to falsify, and one falsified claim would discredit every real number on the site.

What we do instead of testing

Four things, all of them checkable:

  1. Compile published specifications from the manufacturer's own installation manual or spec sheet — never from a retailer listing, never from another publisher, never from memory. Every figure is attributed by document name.
  2. Do the fit arithmetic and show it. Shelf span against bracket spacing. Rod length against support intervals. Container height against shelf gap. The number and the working.
  3. Render prices live. Prices come from the retailer at the moment you look, with a verification date. Where no live price exists, the page says "check price" — never a stale number, never a guess.
  4. State the constraint that disqualifies each pick. Every roundup carries at least one real "skip this if", because a list where everything wins is a list nobody should believe.

The full version is on how we pick, which is the page every recommendation on this site links back to.

How the site is funded

Affiliate commission. When you buy through a link here we earn a percentage, at no extra cost to you. We are an Amazon Associate. We accept no free products, no sponsored placements and no paid inclusion, and commission rate plays no part in what we recommend or in what order.

Several products we recommend earn us nothing at all — Elfa, IKEA and Home Depot's own ranges are not sold on Amazon and we have joined none of their programs — and where that is the case the link says so out loud. The full statement is on affiliate disclosure.

Questions people ask

Who writes Bin & Basket?

Scooter M., positioned honestly as an enthusiast — someone genuinely interested in how storage fits and holds. Not an expert, not a professional organizer, and not someone with a test lab.

Do you test the products you recommend?

No, and we say so on every page. We compile the specifications the manufacturers publish, attribute every figure to the document it came from, and show the fit arithmetic. Where a figure is not published, we say that rather than estimating it.

How does Bin & Basket make money?

Affiliate commission when you buy through our links, at no extra cost to you. We are an Amazon Associate. We accept no free products, no sponsored placements and no paid inclusion, and commission rate does not affect our rankings.

What does the site cover?

Closet and pantry storage only, from a single shelf to a full system. No garage, no bathroom, no general home-organization content. The scope is deliberately narrow.

How do I report an error?

Email info@binandbasket.com or use the contact form. We correct errors within the working week and date-stamp the correction.
