How we pick
Published specs, compiled and attributed. Fit arithmetic, shown. Prices, live. And a stated constraint that disqualifies every pick.
We do not test the products on this site. We compile the specifications the manufacturers publish, attribute every figure to the document it came from, do the fit arithmetic in the open, render prices live from the retailer, and state the constraint that disqualifies each pick. That is a smaller claim than the one our competitors make, and it is one you can check.
Why the method is the differentiator
The dominant trust signal in this category is a testing claim. Three of the nine competitors we surveyed append "Tested & Reviewed" or "Tested & Ranked" to their page titles, and two of those are sites whose main subject is something else entirely — a drone site and a parenting site — claiming a year of hands-on closet testing.
We are not going to make that claim, because it would not be true. So we needed a different one, and the one available to us is better: a published, reproducible method built on documents anyone can go and read. It needs no lab, and it turns out to be uncontested — not one of the ten sites we surveyed publishes fit or dimension data at all.
1. Compile published specifications
Every dimension, span, spacing and load figure on this site comes from the manufacturer's own installation manual or specification sheet, cited by document name on the page where it is used.
- Retailer listings are not acceptable as a spec source. They are frequently wrong, they are not authoritative, and they change without notice.
- Another publisher's numbers are not a source. If we reference another publisher's testing we attribute it to them explicitly and by name, and we never restate someone else's test as though it were ours.
- Memory is not a source. If a figure is not in a document we can point at, it does not go on the page.
- Where a manufacturer does not publish a figure, the page says so — "not published by the manufacturer" — rather than filling the gap with an estimate. That sentence appears on this site a lot, and it is the reason the figures we do print are worth something.
2. Do the fit arithmetic, and show it
A published figure is only useful once it is applied to your closet. So we do the working in the open:

Every one of these is arithmetic on a published number, not a measurement we took.
3. Render prices live
No price is ever typed into a sentence on this site. Prices come from the retailer's data layer at request time, with a visible verification date. Where no live price is available, the button says "Check price on Amazon" and shows no number at all.
This is not fastidiousness. A price written into a page is stale within weeks and wrong for years, and stale prices are the most common defect in this category — one competitor we surveyed still shows figures from a page published in January 2024. A number we cannot stand behind is worse than no number.
Related: "prices verified" and "content updated" are two separate fields on every page, shown separately. Bumping an article's modified date because the price refresh ran would be the same dishonesty as a build-timestamped sitemap.
4. State what disqualifies each pick
Every product on this site carries a "skip this if" — a specific, concrete constraint under which you should not buy it. Not a hedge, not a weakness in general terms, but the situation that makes it the wrong purchase.
Some real examples from the site: skip an over-door organizer if your doors are bifold, because there is no top edge to hook over. Skip a tiered can rack if your shelf spacing is six inches or less, because there is no headroom above a five-inch can. Skip a wall-mounted system if your studs are on 24 inch centers, because Rubbermaid's own guide says maximum capacity is not achievable there.
5. Scoring
Each product carries a score out of ten, broken into four criteria chosen for that category — fit range, published data, load, installation, and so on. Those scores are editorial judgments about published specifications, not test results.
For that reason the scores are ordinary content and never appear in the site's structured data. Marking up an editorial score as a review rating would tell search engines we evaluated a product hands-on, which would contradict everything else on this page. We emit no `Review`, no `reviewRating` and no `AggregateRating` anywhere on this site.
What we explicitly do not do
- We do not test, own, assemble or handle the products.
- We do not accept free products, sponsored placements or paid inclusion.
- We do not rank by commission rate. Amazon is the default retailer because it is the only network we have joined, not because it pays best — and several products here earn us nothing at all.
- We do not publish star ratings or review counts, because we have no verified source for them.
- We do not invent a dimension, a load rating or a price. Ever.
How to check us
Every page carries a sources section naming the documents its figures came from. Most of those documents are public: manufacturers publish their installation instructions and spec sheets, and we link to them where a stable URL exists.

Do you test the products you recommend?
No. We compile the specifications manufacturers publish, attribute every figure to the document it came from, and do the fit arithmetic in the open. We say this on every page rather than in the small print.
Where do your specifications come from?

Why do you not print prices in your articles?
Because a price written into a sentence is stale within weeks and wrong for years. Prices here render live from the retailer with a verification date, or the page says 'check price' and shows no number.
How are your scores calculated?
Four criteria per category, scored out of ten, combined into an overall figure. They are editorial judgments about published specifications, not test results, which is why they never appear in our structured data.
Does commission affect what you recommend?
No. Several products we recommend earn us nothing at all, because they are not sold on Amazon and we have not joined the retailer's program. Where that is the case the link says so.
What happens if a figure on the site is wrong?
Email info@binandbasket.com. We correct errors within the working week and date-stamp the correction on the page.
